What Is A Hero?

Heroes come in many shapes, sizes and forms. Heroes can be friends, family, women, men, kids, famous people or just your everyday ordinary person you meet on the street. When I think of a hero, I think of someone who leads by example, someone I look up to, someone that has qualities that I want to see in myself.

One of the greatest heroes that I've ever known was taken from our family 12 years ago today. She was everything I think of when I think of a hero. She was a ferocious fighter, a caring giver, an amazing leader, a dedicated daughter, an inspiring mother, a devoted wife. She led by example. She shaped me into who I've become and she continues to shape me as I grow.

For some reason, God decided to call my mom home December 19th, 1996. I'm not sure we'll ever understand why. We know she was tired, we know she was sick, we know she's no longer in pain, and we also know that she is looking down upon us from the golden streets of Heaven. We have a special angel up there watching over us. If I can't have her here physically, there's no other place I would like her to be.

There is not a day that goes by that I don't "talk" to mom, "consult" with mom and most of all miss my mom. She was such a beautiful lady, inside and out. I can't believe it's been 12 years since she was here with us. There are days that seem like it was yesterday, and there are days that seem like it's been longer.

I consider myself to be one of the three luckiest daughters in the world because hands down, we had the world's greatest mom. I only hope that I can be 1/2 the parent to my own kids someday that she was to me.

I love you, Mom. Please continue to keep watch over me. Help me to become like you.
